Global Health Paid Internships in Tanzania for Summer 2015

Location: PASADA, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Positions: 2 Interships (Project Assistants, Key Populations and Prevention with Positive Clubs)



The Internships:

  • The Internships are made possible by a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships Grant from the Government of Canada (QEII Diamond Jubiliee Scholarships)
  • Each internship will be a minimum of 90 days (approx. May 11 – Aug 28, 2015).
  • Up to $6,000 is available to support each internship (airfare, living expenses, vaccinations, visas).
  • Each internship will involve mandatory pre-departure training and orientation in Halifax and leadership of Public Engagement activities on return to Canada.
  • Interns will work closely with Tanzanian staff at PASADA on projects related to HIV/AIDS.
  • Please note these opportunities are only open to students of Dalhousie University.

Qualifications

  • Background in community health and epidemiology (or other relevant field), project management and/or research
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, STDs, social determinants of health, gender, addiction, sexuality
  • Experience working in limited resource settings
  • Good writing skills
  • Ability to work with Endnote and SPSS and other statistical packages
  • Proficiency with literature searches on PubMed and preferably other databases
  • Tact and ability to work with people of different technical and cultural backgrounds
  • Proficiency with email, web and MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in English
  • Ability to use Respondent Driven Sampling Tools will be an added advantage

The specific activities and project(s) will be agreed with the intern and will depend on period set for the internship, its duration, as well as the skills and interest of the incumbent and evolution of the needs.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants who meet all of the following conditions may apply:

  • Applicants who are enrolled in a degree granting course of study at Dalhousie University (must be currently registered FT student)
  • Applicants who have completed three years of full-time undergraduate studies prior to commencing the assignment may be considered, preference will be given to graduate students
  • Applicants must hold a valid passport
