The Environmental Law Students' Society brings you: “Race Place & the Law - A Socio-Legal Analysis of Environmental Racism in Nova Scotia”

Dr. Ingrid Waldron - Assistant Professor at Dalhousie's School of Nursing

Aaron Ward - Executive Director of East Coast Environmentel Law Association (ECELAW)

The presentation will explore the historical manifestation of environmental racism in Nova Scotia through a critical interrogation of how white settlor colonialism, race, class, income and environmental policy inform the disproportionate location of polluting industries and other environmetnal hazards in Mi'kmaw and African Nova Scotian communities. This will be followed by a discussion on the role of environmental law in addressing environmental racism, and the requirements for a legal regime to provide meaningful and durable remedies for affected communities.

After the panel, the Marine Environmental Law Program is hosting their annual "Meet the Profs" reception in the Weldon lounge for University Students and Invited Guests. Refreshments and goodies will be available, as well as all the MELP/MELAW professors - willing and able to discuss both the environmental law specialization and career options. If you're interested in joining the MELP program or a career in environmental law, this event is for you!
