Grand Rounds: Why Include Global Health in an Academic Department?

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Present a working definition of global health and discuss how global health can be integrated into an academic department’s mandate of education, research advocacy and clinical practice.
  2. Explore benefits to staff, learners, communities and partners.
  3. Discuss how academic departments could and should engage to support culturally appropriate and sustainable improvements in global health care
  4. Discuss the ethical considerations of academic partnerships in global health.
