Degree Assessment

Undergraduate degree assessment

Transcripts will be assessed as follows:
The calculation of your GPA consists of the two consecutive most senior years of the baccalaureate degree being submitted. A full course load of five full courses (30 credit hours) in each year is generally required. If the degree program has been completed at the time of application, the best three years out of the last four years of full time study could also be considered.

Options for Assessment:

i.     If degree not completed at time of application:

a) Baccalaureate year 2 GPA (30CH) and Baccalaureate year 3 GPA (30CH)

If successful in gaining admission, applicants must demonstrate that the course load and minimum GPA requirement has been maintained in the final year. 

ii.     If degree complete at time of application

a) Baccalaureate year 3 GPA (30CH) and Baccalaureate year 4 GPA (30CH)

b) Baccalaureate year 1 (30CH) + Baccalaureate Year 2 GPA (30CH) + Baccalaureate Year 3 GPA (30CH)

c) Baccalaureate year 1 (30CH) + Baccalaureate Year 3 GPA (30CH) + Baccalaureate Year 4 GPA (30CH)

d) Baccalaureate year 1 (30CH) + Baccalaureate Year 2 GPA (30CH) + Baccalaureate Year 4 GPA (30CH)

e) Baccalaureate year 2 (30 CH) + Baccalaureate Year 3 GPA (30CH) + Baccalaureate Year 4 GPA (30CH)

Master's degree assessment

Transcripts will be assessed as follows:
ALL course grades from the master's program will count as one year's GPA, PLUS your 2 best consecutive full-time undergraduate years of the completed undergraduate program submitted (which must include at least one senior year - year 3 and/or 4).

Options for Assessment:

a) All Masters course grades GPA + Baccalaureate Year 2 GPA (30CH) + Baccalaureate Year 3 GPA (30CH)

b) All Masters course grades GPA + Baccalaureate Year 3 GPA (30CH) + Baccalaureate Year 4 GPA (30CH)

PhD degree assessment

Transcripts will be assessed as follows:
ALL course grades from the PhD program will count as one year's GPA, PLUS one full time senior year (year 3 or 4) of the completed undergraduate program.

Options for Assessment:

a) All PhD course grades GPA + Baccalaureate Year 3 GPA (30CH)

b) All PhD course grades GPA + Baccalaureate Year 4 GPA (30CH)

All degree requirements of graduate programs (including coursework, clinical practica, thesis defence and final thesis submission to your Faculty of Graduate Studies) must be completed by July 30 of the year of entry to medical school. Failure to do so will result in an offer of admission being rescinded.

For all of the above assessments, you must meet the stated minimum GPA requirement for the applicant category you are applying in, in EACH year being assessed. GPAs from each year of study are then averaged to determine your overall GPA.
