Mentorship & Academic Support

PLANS provides mentorship in a variety of ways to members of the African Nova Scotian community. From community or school presentations, individual meetings with advisors or health professionals from the community, or group mentoring sessions related to specific communities of practice (i.e. current medical students, nursing students).

It’s no secret that there are significant differences between high school and university or college, or undergrad and graduate or professional studies! There are a number of resources available – PLANS will offer session to ensure you succeed. Topics include:

  • Studying skills
  • Time Management
  • Research Skills
  • MCAT Info sessions
  • Interview preparation

Dalhousie Black Student Advising Centre

The Black Student Advising Centre supports all black students of African descent in pursuit of post-secondary education at Dalhousie and the University of King's College. Drop by (1321 Edward Street) for information on employment, scholarships and bursaries, and events, both on campus and in the Halifax community. 

Our services include:

  • Confidential Advising for individuals or groups
  • Mediation services 
  • Resource room (student lounge, kitchenette, phone, wifi, meeting space) 
  • Computer lab
