Global Health Conference Bursary

We are pleased to offer conference bursaries for Dalhousie students in Medicine, Health and Dentistry (PhD students are not eligible). 

Eligibility

In order to qualify for a conference bursary students must meet the following requirements:

  • Current Dalhousie student in the faculty of Dentistry, Health or Medicine
  • The approval of an application for funding depends upon the availability of the fund and the established priority in relation to other requests

Bursaries for Global Health Education Experiences

Dal Med Class of 72 Bursary (International)

The Dal Med Class of 1972 have established an Endowment Fund with the Global Health Office to provide bursaries to fourth-year medical student to pursue an international education experience. 

Application Deadline: January 31, 2019

Global Health Education Bursary

Eligibility

In order to qualify for the bursary, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Fourth-year medical student at Dalhousie University
  • Non-government sponsored international medical student (international elective must be in a country different from their country of citizenship or permanent residency)
  • Complete pre-departure training organized through the Global Health Office
  • Complete the requirements for international travel as a Dalhousie University student
  • The elective destination must be approved by the Global Health Office
  • The elective must be approved by the Undergraduate Medical Education office

Process

  • Applications for the 2018-2019 academic year are due January 31, 2019
  • A committee will make decisions and results will be communicated by the end of February 2018
  • Upon returning, please submit the following items to the Global Health Office (must be submitted within 60 days of completing your elective):
    • Quick list
    • Narrative report (see template)
    • Thank you letter to the donor
  • Upon submission of your post-elective paper and thank you letter, a cheque will be prepared and available at the GHO

Dal Med Class of 66 Bursary (Northern Canada)

The Dal Med Class of 1966 have established an Endowment Fund with the Global Health Office to provide bursaries to medical students to pursue educational experiences in Canada’s North.

Global Health Education Bursary

Eligibility

In order to qualify for the bursary, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Medical student at Dalhousie University
  • Non-government sponsored international medical student
  • Complete the Orientation Guide to Northern Electives through the Global Health Office
  • The education experience must be in Northern Canada
  • The education experience destination must be approved by the Global Health Office
  • The education experience must be approved by the Undergraduate Medical Education office

Process

  • Applications for the 2018-2019 academic year are due January 31, 2019
  • A committee will make decisions and results will be communicated by the end of February 2019
  • Upon returning, please submit the following items to the Global Health Office:

Funding for Travel Bursaries and other Global Health Education Activities

The Global Health Office invites students in the Faculties of Health and Medicine to submit applications to receive financial assistance to participate in local, national or international global health activities.

Application Deadlines

  • Fall & Winter Terms October 1
  • Spring & Summer Terms January 31

Eligibility:

  • ​Priority will be given to applications for under-serviced and remote communities in Canada or locations in low resourced settings outside of Canada and United States
  • The approval of an application for funding depends upon the availability of the fund and the established priority in relation to other requests
