Mental Well Being

Mental Well Being
Self awareness; mental distress; mindfulness

Physicians are known to be compassionate, sensitive, intelligent and inquisitive. They can also be “type A”, competitive and have a tendency toward perfectionism. After all, that’s what gets them in to medical school! However, it’s these traits that can lead to burnout, stress and suffering in training and even into medical practice. Self-awareness and strategies to enhance personal resilience are key to mental well-being as well as maintaining strong relationships with family, friends and colleagues.
