Halifax Resuscitation Course

The Department of Emergency Medicine held its first Halifax Resuscitation Course on Wednesday, November 27, 2013.

The course was fully registered well ahead of time, with 31 physicians and six nurses from various sites around the Maritimes, and as far away as British Columbia and Nunavut.

Our strong and committed group of emergency and intensivist physicians, nurses and
paramedics facilitated our participants in hands-on life saving procedures. Clinical-grade
cadavers and high-fidelity mannequins were used to enhance participants’ learning
experiences with both adult and pediatric scenarios.

The course goal was to cover a broad spectrum of critical patient safety initiatives and apply the teamwork principles entrenched in crisis resourse management. Critical life-threatening events are relatively infrequent and this course provided the appropriate environment to safely practice high stress scenarios and skilled critical procedures.
