The basics of pediatric emergency medicine

Pre-clerkship (Med 1 and 2)

Our faculty are very involved in the teaching of medical students. We teach both clinical skills at the Learning Resource Centre and hands-on skills, such as casting and suturing, in the emergency department. We offer both full- and half-year electives.

Clerkship (Med 3 and 4)

A six-week pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) rotation is part of the core Halifax-based, pediatrics rotation. During the three-week ambulatory portion of your PEM rotation, you’ll complete a number of shifts in the IWK Health Centre’s emergency department. Each shift, you’ll be matched up with a faculty member for one-on-one teaching. During the block there’s also dedicated simulation and x-ray training.
