Research interests:

Dr. Knapp’s research focuses on global oncology, health systems research related to breast cancer in Nova Scotia and the treatment of peritoneal surface malignancies, including colorectal carcinomatosis and pseudomyxoma peritonei. Dr. Knapp is a member of the African Research Group for Oncology, which includes 26 tertiary care facilities in Nigeria, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Mount Sinai (NY) and Dalhousie University.  He is actively involved in NIH-funded projects examining the molecular profile and unique modifiable risk factors of colorectal cancer (CRC) in Nigeria as well as peer-reviewed, grant funded research into CRC screening in LMICs. Dr. Knapp has a particular interest in the application of GIS software and big data to measure and address inequities in access to cancer care in LMICs. Dr. Knapp is the Director of the Department of Surgery’s Global Surgery Office. Locally, Dr. Knapp is interesting in examining geospatial differences in receipt of breast cancer surgery in Nova Scotia. Finally, Dr. Knapp is working with Dr. Carmen Giacomantonio and Dr. Geoff Porter on prospectively measuring and comparing outcomes between various therapeutic approaches in the management of peritoneal surface malignancies.
