Verifications of Postgraduate Medical Education Training

Our office is responsible for all current and former PGME trainees and their training records, in the Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University. We provide confidential composite verifications of training directly to credentialing and licensing bodies.

Verification services include the following:

Verification of internship
Verification of residency
Verification of fellowships (for departmental fellowships, contact department directly)
Verification of training with university seal
Replacement Certificate
PGME Dean’s Letter
Immunization Records

PGME does not offer notary public services.  Should you require this service, please contact Dalhousie Legal Aid, ($10/signature - cash only) at 902-423-8105/legalaid@dal.ca

Notary Public: (Lawyer):  A person who can confirm that a copy of a document is true to the original.

Commissioner of Oaths: A person who can witness a signature

Verifications are processed, in batches, approximately once a month.  We cannot accommodate urgent or verbal requests.

During peak periods (March to mid-July) requests may take 6-8 weeks to process. Due to resident registrations, we cannot process verifications in June.

We strongly suggest emailing the request and release using credit card payment to avoid delays.  

Verification requests must include the following three items:

Verification fee

For each verification of training there is a $105CAD processing fee that is non-refundable. Verification of training requests can be paid by:

  • Credit card (VISA, MasterCard or American Express)
  • Cheque (payable to Dalhousie University) *Must be in Canadian dollars*
  • money order (payable to Dalhousie University) *Must be in Canadian dollars*

We encourage using credit card payment to pay service charges. Cheques from outside of Canada can take up to eight weeks to arrive in our office.

Verifications are primarily sent via email, however, can be returned by FedEx Courier upon request *additional fee applies; $30 within Canada; $45 to the USA*. 

PGME is not responsible should a verification be lost in the mail; processing and courier fees will apply if letter/form needs to be rewritten.

Physicians must provide a letter of written request, outlining which type of verification service they require. 

Signed Release/Authorization by the Physician

  • Must include company logo
  • Release must be signed by a physician within the past 12 months.
