Residency programs within Maritime Canada
Dalhousie Medical School offers university-arranged and university-supervised clinical training for postgraduate medical trainees. Specialty training is accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is conducted in affiliated teaching hospitals in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Dalhousie Medical School currently holds Royal College approval for over 50 specialty (direct entry) and subspecialty training programs.
Residents work side-by-side with expert faculty members who are dedicated to teaching, as well as serving patient needs. In one-on-one, customized learning environments, our faculty ensure that residents develop as medical experts, professionals, communicators, collaborators, health advocates and scholars.
Our faculty and residents also work to translate research and technological advancements into practice to provide the best possible care for our communities. Their areas of research include working on ways to ensure decreased transplant rejection, finding more effective drugs for Alzheimer’s patients and possibile prenatal vaccines for whooping cough.
Dalhousie residents also enjoy excellent training opportunities in family medicine. Our family medicine residency program is accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and carried out in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island teaching hospitals and family practice teaching units.
