Clinical profile

Dr. Brown is director of the voice, upper airway and oropharyngeal swallowing clinic at the Victoria General site of the QEII Health Sciences Centre. This state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary, subspecialized clinic focuses on the investigation and treatment of patients with voice, upper airway and swallowing disorders. In addition to traditional medical and surgical treatment options, this clinic has expertise in “in-office” endoscopic procedures, which are currently not offered elsewhere in the Maritimes.

Research interests

Dr. Brown has a particular interest in outcomes-based research as it applies to the surgical care of voice and airway patients. Research in medical education as it pertains to undergraduate and postgraduate training for medical students and otolaryngology residents is also a significant interest. Dr. Brown plans to develop collaborative research interests with related airway specialties such as anesthesia and pediatric otolaryngology.

Education Interests

Dr. Brown has a strong interest in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. As a member of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology Undergraduate Working Committee, he is working to develop a national otolaryngology curriculum and series of modules for teaching at the undergraduate medical level. He encourages collaborative educational projects between the Division of Otolaryngology staff and residents with undergraduate medical students─many opportunities for work in this area are available to interested students.
