Education
Opportunities for all learners
Undergraduate clerkship in medicine
An undergraduate rotation in Otolaryngology─Head and Neck Surgery is available as part of a selective surgical rotation for medical students at Dalhousie University as well as an elective rotation for medical students from any medical school. Your rotation of 3-4 weeks will typically include exposure to both adult and pediatric otolaryngology and a mix of clinic and operating room experience, as well as inpatient management and on-call opportunities.
Residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
Our five-year residency training program, accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, provides an excellent hands-on experience in all the subspecialties of otolaryngology─head and neck surgery as well as a robust didactic learning schedule to fully prepare a resident to enter independent practice. There is an emphasis on research throughout our residency program, as well as support to attend meetings and courses throughout the program. We typically accept two residents into the program annually.
Elective rotations as part of your residency training program
Residents from many other programs rotate through our program as part of either mandatory rotations or elective experiences. For many specialties, experience in otolaryngology─head and neck surgery will be a complement to your skill development. We will tailor your elective experience to meet your specialty learning needs. Contact us for more information on our residency electives.
Exceptional fellowships
Our division offers two outstanding fellowships: the Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology/Reconstructive Microsurgery and the Fellowship in Otology, Neurotology & Skull Base Surgery.
