Pediatric Surgery Fellowship

Subspecialty training in pediatric surgery

At IWK Health and Dalhousie Medical School, we are proud to offer a fully accredited, two-year fellowship training program in Pediatric General & Thoracic Surgery. Our specialty addresses a wide range of problems, both in terms of anatomy and complexity.

Our unique position as the sole children’s hospital in Atlantic Canada, geographically removed from other pediatric institutions, offers an extremely attractive setup for training in pediatric surgery. At the IWK, we are able to offer the whole breadth of pediatric surgical services with virtually no nearby competing centres, allowing our trainees to receive strong preparation for a career in pediatric surgery.

Our program has a strong reputation among our peers and prospective candidates, reflected by the high number of applications we receive. We currently participate in the North American Pediatric Surgery match through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and the application process is facilitated by the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)

Since we offer training for one fellow at a time, we participate in the match every other year.
