Patient Care
Fostering expertise through clinical care
Become a better surgeon with a general surgery residency at Dalhousie University. From the very beginning, you’ll be given an appropriate amount of responsibility when it comes to caring for patients. And as you gain skills and experience, that responsibility will grow. During your time as a resident, you will
- work with ambulatory patients
- perform inpatient and outpatient consultations
- make operating decisions
- manage trauma patients and work with a team approach
- be a member of the transplant team
- contribute to the improved health of patients and communities through advocacy
- develop excellent patient communication skills
- learn to collect history data from family members
A range of experience
At Dalhousie, we have the unique ability to offer residency training at clinical centres throughout the Maritimes. This will give you lots of opportunity to travel and explore the East Coast, and more importantly, you’ll gain exposure to a variety of surgical problems and clinical approaches in multiple top-notch facilities. These opportunities include surgery experiences in Halifax, Dartmouth, Fredericton, Moncton, Kentville and Saint John.
