First CBMC Admissions Information Sessions a Success

On Monday, March 4, and Tuesday, March 5, the Cape Breton Medical Campus hosted inaugural admissions sessions for potential applicants with more than 200 attendees.

Dalhousie Medical School’s Dr. Andrea Rideout, Assistant Dean of Admissions; and Carolyn Doyle, Admissions Administrator, presented an admissions overview to the eager group of prospective applicants, accompanied by Cape Breton University’s Dr. Tanya Brann Barrett, Associate Vice President of Academic and Research; Dr. Kevin Orrell, Interim Associate Dean of CBMC; and Darrell Kyte, Program Director of CBMC.

With applications for CBMC opening in June 2024, the sessions allowed attendees to walk through the admissions process and ask questions to further their understanding of the steps ahead of them.

Physician Education Session Held in Cape Breton

On Wednesday, March 20, more than 25 physicians gathered at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for a Physician Education Session presented by Dr. Jennifer Hall. The session was held to help physicians understand the potential opportunities to teach within the Cape Breton Medical Campus.

On Thursday, March 21, the team travelled to Antigonish to meet with another group of physicians. The session was well attended and we look forward to future opportunities for engagement with physicians across rural Nova Scotia.

Infrastructure Update

Although an official ground-breaking celebration will be held in the spring, progress is underway on the construction site of the future Cape Breton Medical Campus. As of March 2024, the foundation has been laid and stairwell concrete pours have been completed. Elevator shaft concrete will be poured in the coming weeks and new time lapse cameras will be installed next month to capture progress live as work continues.

CaRMS Match Day

Congratulations to the Class of 2024, who recently learned during CaRMS Match Day on March 19, where they will be spending their next several years of residency training.

The Class of 2024 excelled through challenges, and demonstrated the qualities that will undoubtedly make them exceptional physicians. The Faculty of Medicine is excited for what they have accomplished, and we wish them the best of luck in whatever path they choose.
