CH&E seeks to improve health beyond traditional academic roles by engaging meaningfully with communities, the public, government, and health system partners. This stream emphasizes trust, reciprocity, and relevance—ensuring that research and education are responsive to societal needs and grounded in equity.

A central theme of this stream is strengthening public and community engagement while embedding equity, diversity, inclusion, reconciliation, and anti‑oppression across departmental practice.

This focus area emphasizes strengthening how CH&E engages with the public and communities and how research findings are translated into policy and practice. It reflects a commitment to meaningful engagement that improves relevance, trust, and shared impact.

Focus Area 2: Integrate Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Reconciliation & Anti‑Oppression (EDIRA) across departmental activities

This focus area prioritizes embedding EDIRA principles across teaching, research, hiring, and evaluation. It underscores the department’s responsibility to create inclusive, respectful, and socially accountable academic practices.
