Analytical Support Services

The Department of Community Health and Epidemiology (CH&E) offers an Analytical Support Program that provides clinical and health research teams with access to collaborative analytical expertise. Through this program, researchers can partner with CH&E students and faculty members to develop research projects, conduct statistical analyses, and support knowledge generation activities. All projects are supervised by a CH&E faculty member to ensure methodological rigor, quality assurance, and timely completion of project milestones.

How the program works

To initiate a project, research teams are asked to complete the intake form and provide details about their project and analytical requirements. Upon review, a preliminary 30-minute project initiation meeting will be scheduled to discuss the project's objectives, scope, deliverables, and timelines. Following the consultation, the CH&E team will determine whether the project is suitable for analytical support and develop a project plan outlining the proposed work, timelines, deliverables, and associated budget.

Following the consultation, the CH&E team will develop a project plan outlining the proposed work, estimated timelines, deliverables, and associated budget. Once the project plan has been reviewed and approved, the CH&E team will proceed with the agreed-upon analyses. Regular meetings will be scheduled throughout the project to review progress, discuss findings, and address any questions or emerging needs.

At project completion, the CH&E team will provide a comprehensive final report summarizing the analyses and results outlined in the approved project plan.

Project scope and ethics requirements

To ensure clear expectations and accurate budgeting, all project team members are encouraged to review and approve the project plan before work begins. Any analyses or services requested outside the approved scope of work will be considered additional work and will be billed separately from the original project estimate.

The Principal Investigator is responsible for ensuring that all required Research Ethics Board (REB) approvals are obtained prior to the commencement of any analytical work. Where applicable, the assigned CH&E analyst must be added to the REB file before receiving access to study data or conducting analyses.

Rates and cost structure

The time and resources required for each project will vary depending on the complexity of the research question, study design, and analytical requirements. Each project plan will include an estimate of the anticipated hours and associated costs.

Project fees typically range from $50 to $150 per hour, depending on the level of expertise required and the scope of work.

Projects may be completed by analysts at the MSc, PhD, or faculty level, depending on project requirements. Projects completed by an MSc-level analyst include faculty oversight and quality assurance. Where applicable, costs associated with faculty supervision and quality review will be incorporated into the project budget.

Revenues generated through the program supports CH&E student training and professional development opportunities.

Project timelines

Projects led by student analysts require a minimum of 6 weeks from the initial consultation to project completion. This timeline allows sufficient time for project planning, development of the analytical approach, analysis execution, faculty review, and quality verification.

Please note that projects requiring shorter turnaround times cannot be accommodated and will not be considered through this program.
