Convocation Awards
The following convocation awards will be presented annually based upon a recommendation from the Department of Family Medicine’s Medical Education Awards Committee.
Dr. Leonard, Kay, and Simon Levine Scholarship
Funded by a donation to Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine, by Dr. Leonard Levine, the Dr. Leonard, Kay, and Simon Levine Scholarship will be awarded annually during the Faculty of Medicine’s Spring Convocation. The Dr. Leonard, Kay, and Simon Levine Scholarship provides an annual scholarship to a fourth-year medical student pursuing studies in family medicine.
Dr. S. G. Burke Fullerton Award
Funded by a donation to Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine, by Dr. S. G. Burke Fullerton, the Dr. S. G. Burke Fullerton Award will be presented annually during the Faculty of Medicine’s Spring Convocation. The Dr. S. G. Burke Fullerton Award is to be awarded to the student who shows the greatest promise in family medicine in their fourth year.
How to Nominate a Student
A preceptor who is interested in nominating a student should provide a brief description of why they believe the student is deserving of this award. Please describe how the student exemplifies one, two, or all of the principles of family medicine.
For example, how does the student exemplify that they:
- Are a skilled clinician?
- Appreciate that family medicine is community-based?
- Appreciate that the patient-physician relationship is key?
- Are a resource to their practice?
Nominations from both the students’ core clerkship (Med-3 year) and the Med-4 year will be considered; however, the scholarship will be awarded during the students’ final year of training. Further information from ITERs and exam results may also be taken into consideration during committee deliberations.
