Biography
Dr. Carpenter joined the Department of Medicine at Dalhousie University in 2025 from the University of Toronto, previously practicing as an attending physician with Unity Health Toronto for 8 years before returning to Nova Scotia.
Originally from Manitoba, he completed his undergraduate degree at Dalhousie, his medical degree at the University of Alberta, residency and fellowship at the University of Toronto, and his graduate degree in public health at the Harvard Chan School.
Dr. Carpenter focuses on health policy and health quality, previously serving as faculty with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine in Toronto, as Chair for Health Policy at the Ontario Medical Association, a hospital lead with the Ontario General Medicine Quality Improvement Network (GeMQIN), and a Research Fellow with the School of Public Policy in Calgary.
Dr. Carpenter is the current Division Head for General Internal Medicine at Dalhousie University and for Nova Scotia Health Central Zone. He remains a passionate advocate for quality inpatient care, collaboration with other services, and increased provision of peri-hospital services to improve outcomes and support the broader health system.
