Travis Carpenter, MD, MPH, FRCPC

Biography

Dr. Carpenter joined the Department of Medicine at Dalhousie University in 2025. He practices medicine at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax and at Unity Health Toronto. His academic and administrative activities have focused on quality improvement and health policy, with extensive experience in policy evaluation, research, and advocacy in Ontario, Alberta, and Atlantic Canada.

Originally from Manitoba, he completed his undergraduate degree at Dalhousie, his medical degree at the University of Alberta, residency and fellowship at the University of Toronto, and his graduate degree in public health at the Harvard Chan School.

He serves on the Board of Directors for Doctors Nova Scotia and as Chair for the Health Policy Panel at the Ontario Medical Association, having also spent four years as a member and subsequent Chair of the former Health Policy Committee at the OMA. He holds faculty appointments at Dalhousie University (Assistant Professor, Clinician Administrator) and the University of Toronto (Assistant Professor, Clinician in Quality & Innovation), as well as serving as a Research Fellow at the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary. He is the current Division Head for General Internal Medicine in Nova Scotia Health Central Zone and has held a variety of quality and leadership roles at the local hospital level.

He remains a passionate advocate for quality inpatient care, collaboration with other services, and increased provision of peri-hospital services to improve outcomes and support the broader health system.
