Biography
Dr. Walter Schlech, professor of medicine, has been involved in HIV research and care since 1982. He served as a member of the National Advisory Committee on AIDS in Canada and Centers for Disease Control Atlanta’s Advisory Committee on HIV, STDs and tuberculosis. He serves on the Academic Alliance of Africare and travels to Africa regularly to teach and foster research in Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria, and Malawi.
Research interests
Dr. Schlech's research in the area of infectious diseases has been widely published in journals including The Lancet, the New England Journal of Medicine, AIDS and the Journal of the American Medical Association. He is a world authority on the epidemiology and treatment of Listeria monocytogenes infection. His current research area is prevention and treatment of HIV in Africa.
