Medical education across the continuum
The Department of Medicine provides undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education in core internal medicine and 15 subspecialties. We educate medical students and residents from Dalhousie, as well as Canadian and international medical schools. We also provide continuing education to physicians across Atlantic Canada.
Medical students can choose elective experiences in virtually all areas of internal medicine in each of the four years of medical school to build their internal medicine knowledge.
Our four-year core internal medicine residency program, with sites in Halifax and Saint John, accepts 18 residents each year. Residents are selected from over 700 applicants. Upon completion of the core internal residency program, residents can choose to pursue subspecialty training. At any given time, over 90 core internal medicine and subspecialty residents are part of the department.
We offer continuing education opportunities to department members, other departments within Dalhousie Medical School, and physicians across Atlantic Canada.
