Admission Requirements
Are you ready?
Admission to our graduate programs depends on more than satisfying Dalhousie’s general graduate studies admission requirements. We’ll also look at your undergraduate and graduate academic records, letters of recommendation and your previous research experience.
MSc Program
Before you apply for our MSc Pharmacology, you’ll need an honours-level Bachelor of Science degree. If you’ve earned a Bachelor of Science with a major in a related science and have demonstrated research ability, you may also be considered.
PhD Program
If you’ve completed your MSc, consider taking your career farther by pursuing a PhD in pharmacology.
Want to skip obtaining an MSc and go right to a PhD? You can start in a MSc program and if your first-year of academic and research performance goes well, you can transfer into the PhD program and your 1st year counts towards your PhD.
Evaluation Criteria
- An average mark from the past two years of A- (GPA=3.7 on 4.3 scale) is preferable -- (Applicants with lower entry grades may be considered in some circumstances)
- Academic background relevant to proposed research
- Research experience and letters of support
- Research environment, infrastructure, and mentorship
- Potential external fundability of the applicant
International students
If your first language is not English, you must provide evidence of English proficiency.It is possible to have this requirement waived if you completed your degree at a recognized university where the language of instruction is English and in a country where English is one of the official languages.
The Faculty of Graduate Studies accepts a wide range of ESL tests for admissions up to two years after completion, you can find more infomation on the minimum test scores requirements from here. We also accept the completion of the Dalhousie English Language Studies Department course, English for Academic Purposes - Level 2.
