Patient Care

A range of programs to best meet patient care needs

The Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation provides inpatient, outpatient, outreach and telehealth care based on the latest evidence and innovations. Collaboration with Nova Scotia Health Authority’s rehabilitation and supportive care services and with many Dalhousie University departments is at the heart of our efforts to best meet patients’ needs.

Together, we support a 66-bed inpatient rehabilitation centre and three main inpatient programs: acquired brain injury, musculoskeletal and amputee, and neuro-rehabilitation and spinal cord injury.

Health care providers and educators across Canada seek our expertise in wheelchair safety and performance and in neuropathic pain, and our members lead the only accredited spinal care and brain injury programs in Canada.

We offer outpatient, outreach and telehealth clinics to support patients in the Halifax region, across Nova Scotia and throughout the Maritime provinces. In-community care and education encompassing visits to homes and continuing care facilities is a growing area of focus.

The majority of our clinics are interdisciplinary including the newly developed orthotic clinic for patients with complex bracing needs and the pediatric-to-adult transition clinic for people living with cerebral palsy.
