Department of Medicine Grand Rounds
Grand Rounds are a cornerstone of continuing professional development in the Department of Medicine. These sessions bring together faculty, residents, medical learners, and allied health professionals to share emerging research, clinical insights, and best practices across the spectrum of internal medicine.
Who can attend
Grand Rounds are open to:
- Department of Medicine faculty and staff
- Residents and medical students
- Allied health professionals
- Community physicians across the Maritimes
Format & schedule
- Frequency: Grand Rounds are typically held weekly throughout the academic year.
- Length: Each session is approximately one hour.
- Format: Sessions are delivered in a hybrid model — attend in person at the Halifax Infirmary Royal Bank Theatre or join virtually via Microsoft Teams.
Schedules and access links are shared regularly with Department members.
Topics & speakers
Grand Rounds cover a wide range of timely and clinically relevant topics, such as:
- Advances in clinical practice and guidelines
- Updates from current research and innovation
- Case-based discussions with practical applications
- Patient care challenges and solutions
Speakers include Department of Medicine faculty, guest experts, and collaborators from across disciplines.
Accreditation
Attendance at Grand Rounds can be applied toward your continuing professional development. Sessions are accredited for Section 1 credits under the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada’s Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program.
