Continuing Medical Education
Stay up-to-date
In Dalhousie’s Department of Pediatrics, we know that opportunities to continue your education are critical to maintaining expertise and improving community care.
With this in mind, we’re actively involved in all spheres of continuing medical education (CME) and professional development, and we participate in organizing and presenting numerous CME activities at local, national and international levels.
Activities
Grand Rounds: Presented by members of the department, pediatric residents and visiting speakers, many of these rounds are teleconferenced to other centres in the Atlantic region, including:
- Sydney
- Kentville
- Antigonish
- Truro
- Moncton
- Bathurst
- Charlottetown
- St. John
Our members also present Grand Rounds in other Dalhousie departments and at various other health care institutions in the Maritimes.
Scheduled rounds and journal clubs: Several of our divisions offer regularly scheduled rounds and journal clubs.
Collaborative learning: Our department has been actively involved in providing continuing education to allied health professionals working with children with chronic diseases.
The Atlantic Provinces Pediatric Society (APPS) Annual Conference: Each year, we organize this important conference, which presents topics of general interest to those involved in pediatrics. This conference is open to all pediatricians and family physicians.
Continuing Medical Education programs: We work closely with Dalhousie Medical School’s Continuing Professional Development unit by contributing to several programs, including the annual refresher course held for family physicians. Other offerings include:
- annual short classes in selected topics of pediatric interests
- preceptorships for periods of two to four weeks
- special training programs tailored to individual needs of physicians interested in their own continuing education
