Biography

Dr. Kiberd serves as the Associate Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia, Chief of the Pediatric Acute Pain Service (APS), and Chair of the Transfusion Committee at the IWK Health Centre. His clinical expertise extends across pediatric anesthesia, with a focus on improving patient outcomes through leadership in sedation and vascular access services.

He completed his medical degree and residency at Dalhousie University before pursuing advanced training through a Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship at Stanford University and a Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia Fellowship at the Stollery Children's Hospital.

Dr. Kiberd is dedicated to integrating and expanding anesthesia services into all aspects of the hospital, ensuring that sedation and vascular access are available to support various clinical needs throughout the institution. He also seeks to expand the role of anesthesia assistants to their full potential.

Research interests  

Dr. Kiberd's research interests are centered on pediatric ambulatory care, Vascular Access, regional anesthesia, and aerospace medicine. A key focus of his current work is a Phase 2 clinical trial investigating the use of aprepitant for postoperative nausea and vomiting in pediatric patients (APRE-2023), an investigator-initiated Health Canada trial. Dr. Kiberd also collaborates with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), exploring trauma care innovations that benefit both civilian and military settings.
