Education
The latest in medical and health education
Residents, medical students, faculty and health professionals can expect exceptional educational experiences in the Dalhousie Department of Anesthesia, Pain Management & Perioperative Medicine. We ground our programs in the latest research and developments in medical and health education, and make continuous improvements based on evaluation.
Residency training
As part of our anesthesia residency program, you will benefit from one of the most advanced postgraduate curriculums in the country. Our nationally recognized curriculum renewal initiative has positioned Anesthesia, Pain Management & Perioperative Medicine as a frontrunner among academic departments across Canada in competency-based medical education.
Undergraduate education
We enthusiastically welcome medical students from Dalhousie Medical School and medical schools across Canada. We also provide education to student anesthesia assistants, paramedics, nurses and respiratory therapists.
Fellowships
Through our fellowship programs, you will receive advanced clinical training, and exceptional teaching and research opportunities. Each of our fellowships is structured to meet your individual aspirations. Successful candidates will practise, teach and research at the QEII Health Sciences Centre and/or IWK Health in Halifax, where big-city convenience meets the charm of small-town living.
Global health
We lead the way in global health, offering residents, faculty and staff educational opportunities in low-resource areas. We also provide Rwandan residents educational opportunities in Halifax through a partnership with the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society International Education Foundation (CAS IEF)
Continuing professional development
Our continuing professional development events and activities provide excellent education opportunities for members of the department, our community partners and the broader clinical community.
The Anesthesia, Pain Management & Perioperative Medicine undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education programs are supported by a robust Office of Education and are aligned via a comprehensive strategic plan.
