An introduction to anesthesia

Anesthesia, Pain Management & Perioperative Medicine faculty members love to teach, love to learn and enthusiastically welcome medical students from Dalhousie Medical School and medical schools across Canada. We also provide education to student anesthesia assistants, paramedics, nurses and respiratory therapists.

Electives

Med 1 and Med 2 electives (for Dalhousie medicine students)

Medical students may choose to spend a half-day each week throughout the academic year with an anesthesiologist in a clinical environment. You will learn the technical skills involved in vascular access and airway management while reviewing pharmacology and pathophysiology relevant to the cases being managed.

Med 3 selective (for Dalhousie medicine students)

Students who complete an ICU rotation in their third year during clerkship will participate in a one-week anesthesia selective rotation. You will gain an understanding of the anesthetic considerations of various medical conditions, become familiar with the principles of acute pain management and acquire the basic skills of airway management.
