About

Linking public health education, research, and practice

The Division of Public Health and Preventive Medicine was launched in winter 2026 to strengthen public health education and research in Atlantic Canada by providing a welcoming academic and clinical home for public health physicians within Dalhousie’s Department of Community Health and Epidemiology. By bringing public health specialists more fully into teaching and research, the division supports curriculum development, mentorship, and teaching excellence, creating new opportunities for medical students, residents, graduate learners, faculty, and staff.

The division will also support collaborative, communityfocused research that responds to realworld public health needs, advances health equity, and serves diverse populations across the region.

Working closely with partners at Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health, the division will strengthen connections across education, research, and practice; support the recruitment and retention of public health professionals; and help position Dalhousie as a leader in public health education, research, and innovation in the Maritimes.
