Education
Public health education at Dalhousie
The Division of Public Health and Preventive Medicine will contribute to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education within Dalhousie’s Faculty of Medicine, with a focus on the six core functions of public health: population health assessment, surveillance, health protection, health promotion, disease prevention, and emergency management. The division strengthens the connection between academic learning and public health practice through close collaboration with health system partners.
Faculty members in the division will be actively engaged in teaching and mentorship across Dalhousie Medicine, contributing to medical education, graduate learning, and applied public health training. Through partnerships with Nova Scotia Health and other regional collaborators, the Division will support educational experiences that integrate academic study with public health practice and service.
Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency (In Development)
The division will serve as the academic home for a new Public Health and Preventive Medicine residency program, currently in development and not yet accepting residents.
With its launch, the PHPM residency program will be the first such program in the region, making Dalhousie and NS Health the only institutions east of Quebec to offer this advanced training.
