Patient Care
Expert consultation and state-of-the-art treatment
Members of the Division of Digestive Care and Endoscopy provide secondary and tertiary care to patients with gastrointestinal diseases in the Maritime provinces. This care includes highly specialized consultation as well as advanced gastrointestinal treatment.
Our division was instrumental in developing a province-wide Colon Cancer Prevention Program that provides all Nova Scotians between the ages of 50 and 74 with access to a home screening kit. This program, which is administered through Cancer Care Nova Scotia, provides a convenient way to determine whether or not a screening colonoscopy is required.
Liver disease expertise
The division also provides liver disease referral care through the Multi-Organ Transplant Program at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. Liver specialists are based in three provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland) and clinical activities are coordinated through the transplant program.
Consultation and ambulatory care
Members of the division also provide inpatient and emergency consultations at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, IWK Health Centre and the Dartmouth General Hospital. Outpatient care is provided through various ambulatory clinics at the QEII, including:
- GI General Clinic
- GI Liver Transplant Clinic
- Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Services
- Neurogenic Bowel Clinic
