Sudeep Shivakumar, MD, MPH, RCPSC

Biography

Dr. Shivakumar is a hematologist in the Division of Hematology and Hematologic Oncology at Dalhousie University, where he is an Associate Professor and the Division Head. In addition to seeing a wide variety of classical and malignant hematologic diseases, he has a clinical and research focus on venous thromboembolism (VTE). A dedicated clinician-scientist, Dr. Shivakumar has collaborated extensively with thrombosis specialists across Canada and plays a key leadership role as a board member of Thrombosis Canada.

Dr. Shivakumar has significant experience in the design and execution of large, multicenter clinical trials in thrombosis, serving in roles such as steering committee member, local principal investigator, and member of data safety monitoring boards. This work has contributed to the successful recruitment of patients and the completion of high-impact randomized controlled trials in the field of Thrombosis.

In addition to a strong clinical trials portfolio, Dr. Shivakumar recently completed a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology from Harvard University and is currently a recipient of CIHR funding for the EPCAT III randomized controlled trial.

Research interests

Dr. Shivakumar has several projects underway that study the effectiveness of new drugs to prevent or treat thrombosis.
