July 28 is A Day of Commemoration of the Great Upheaval, a national day of remembrance in Canada about the expulsion of the Acadian people from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI between 1755 and 1763. Many thousands of Acadians died from disease and shipwrecks, either as refugees from or prisoners of the British Crown. The Crown took their land, burning homes, churches and villages, for failing to make an oath to King George II. Many escaped to Louisiana to become modern day Cajuns. It wasn’t until 1764 that Acadians were permitted to return.
July is also Disability Pride Month, celebrating the achievements and contributions People with Disabilities (PWDs) have made to arts, culture, medicine, science, and beyond.
