May is the month of Jewish Heritage Month and Haitian Heritage Month. It’s also the home to Mental Health Awareness Month, Brain Cancer Awareness Month, ALS Awareness Month, and Lyme Disease Awareness Month.

5 May is the National Day of Awareness for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and 2SLGBTQI+ People (MMIWG2S). Also known as Red Dress Day, it focuses on the thousands lost to the outsized violence experienced by MMIWG2S in Canada. The Red Dress of the day was inspired by a Métis artist who hung empty red dresses to demonstrate the numbers who have gone missing or who have been murdered. (The Canadian Encyclopedia)
