September is the month of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (30 September), also known as Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day commemorates those children lost to and those who survived the disgraceful and genocidal Residential School program, which ended in 1996. First Nations and Canadians wear orange shirts on this day as an outward symbol of the truth that every child matters. (Government of Canada)
