Awards and Recognitions
The Department of Pathology's faculty and trainees are among the finest in the world. Every so often awards and recognitions are given to individuals within the Department or to the Department as a whole.
2024
July
- Dr. Heleen Arts and Dr. Cheng Wang were 2024 recipients of the David Janigan Teaching Award presented at the Department of Pathology's annual retreat.
Dr. Bassam Nassar accepted the Excellence in Clinical Service award on behalf of Dr. Manal Elnenaei
Dr. Robert Fraser was presented the Lifetime Achievement award by Drs. Irene Sadek and JoAnn Brock
- Dr. Manal Elnenaei was awarded in absentia the 2024 Excellence In Clinical Service award.
- Dr. Robert Fraser was the recipient of the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award.

- Dr. Carley Bekkers was awarded the Best Work in Basic Science Research Award from the Faculty of Medicine in their Annual Resident Research Competition for her work “Molecular genetic predictors of disease response to capecitabine-temozolomide for patients with metastatic neuroendocrine neoplasms” with Drs. Tom Arnason, Michael Carter, and Danny Rayson.
- Ashlyn Fong received the Killam Post-Graduate Medical Scholarship from PGME. This scholarship is awarded to a post-graduate student in their final year of training at Dal to support further fellowship training and who is likely to contribute to the advancement of learning, win distinction in their specialty, and be recommended for appointment to a faculty of a medical school on completion of training.
