Conference Grant Awards


The Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine (FoM) Conference Grant Awards are established to provide financial support for research conferences, with preference given to those involving local researchers, trainees, and the community. These awards aim to foster collaboration, showcase research expertise, and enhance the reputation of Dalhousie University and the Faculty of Medicine on regional, national, and international platforms.

Eligibility and Priorities:

•          Faculty who holds their primary appointment in the Faculty of Medicine can             apply.
•          The principal applicant and any co-applicants are coordinating the research             conference.

Submission Process:

•          The Principal Applicant must submit applications.
•          Applications must be a single PDF containing the following
                i.          Completed application form.
                ii.         CCV academic format of the Principal Applicant
                iii.        CCV academic format of any Co-Applicants
                iv.         Proposed conference program and/or agenda
•          File naming format: Principal Applicant’s Last Name_Principal Applicant’s                                    FirstName_FMCG_2024
•          Must be emailed to the Medical Research Development Office ( and                     submitted via the ROMEO for departmental and faculty approval.

Deadline and Competition Schedule:

•          The Conference Grant Awards application deadline is Monday, February 5th, 2024.

Assessment Criteria:

•          A Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine member must host the conference.
•          Co-applicants can include other faculty members or senior PhD or postdoctoral                          fellows.
•          The conference should facilitate research collaboration during and after the event.
•          The conference theme must focus on advancing research knowledge.
•          There is no minimum expected conference attendance, but preference will be given to            applications that include researchers and trainees.

Grant Amount and Authorized Expenditures:

•          Maximum of two grants valued at $5,000 each OR one grant of $10,000 for                                  conferences in 2024.
•          Funds can be used for visiting lecture expenses (travel, accommodation, and meals),            research poster printing, audio-visual presentation, or any reasonable                                           conference- related expenses.
•          The conference funding must be used within 12 months of the notice of award.
•          Unspent funds will be recovered for future competitions.

Reporting and Additional Requirements:

•          Successful applicants may be invited to submit a report highlighting the award's                       impact on promoting research in the Faculty of Medicine.
•          Inclusion of the Faculty of Medicine logo and recognition of MRDO sponsorship in                      brochures, programs, podium signage, etc.
•          Organizers are expected to inform the Faculty of Medicine Advancement Team of the             event and assist Advancement to showcase the research associated with the event.
