2024 Undergraduate Summer Research Awards (USRAs)

Researchers in the Faculty of Medicine are eligible to apply for the Undergraduate Student Research Awards program administered by the Tri-council granting agencies. This program awards funding that supports undergraduate students to conduct research in university laboratories throughout the summer (May 1st, 2024 - August 31st, 2024).

The following competition will distribute NSERC-funded USRAs in the Faculty of Medicine, and CIHR-funded USRAs, which are protected for Black student researchers and open to all Dalhousie faculties.

Application Process

Undergraduate students who choose a potential supervisor in the Faculty of Medicine will apply via our online application form (MS Forms link below).  Detailed instructions and guidelines can be found on the first page and second page of the student application form.

Before completing the application form, students must first complete the Dalhousie Student Census.

There are separate online application forms to be completed by the student applicant and the potential supervisor.  We will match the applications via the student’s banner number. A complete application package must include the submission of A) the Dalhousie Student Census (completed by student), B) the Student Application Form and C) theSupervisor Application Form.

All applications will be received by the Medicine Research Development Office.  The deadline for submission is January 26th, 2024, before 11:59pm.

Selection Process

All applications will be reviewed and ranked by the Scholarship Committee following the selection criteria provided by NSERC.

Following the review, each department will be informed about the number of applications received for their department, applicant information, and their rankings. Letters will further be distributed to the successful applicants and the supervisors.
