Purpose:
The Transformational Medical Research Grants program provides a significant investment in research projects and teams that are on the cusp of making a significant discovery or advancement in their field. The grant will accelerate success and enable the team to capitalize on emerging opportunities. The funding available for 2025 is $1M to fund research projects over three years. Successful applicants will submit an annual progress report due on the anniversary of the project start date. The River Philip Foundation has generously funded this award.

Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine researchers will be asked to submit a notice of intent (NOI) by March 31st, 2025.

Successful project investigators at the NOI stage will be notified by April 30th, 2025 and invited to submit a full application due June 30th, 2025

Term

Research projects will span up to three years.

Award Value and Number of Awards

The award value and number of available awards will depend on funding available, and quality of proposals received. In 2025, the funding available is $1.0 million dollars to fund proposals over 3 years.

Eligibility and Criteria

  • The principal investigator must be a Dalhousie University professor with a primary appointment with the FoM.
  • The principal investigator and team must have a research and academic track record to support the proposal’s success
  • Proposed research must have the potential to advance medical knowledge in the respective domain.
  • The primary focus of these opportunities is the transformational nature of the research project. All transformational research projects are of interest and will be considered.
  • Research proposals should demonstrate how they benefit rural and/or underserved communities, particularly in our region.
  • Research projects in the areas of healthy aging, food as medicine, and cardiovascular research are an interest of this funder. However, all Transformative Research projects will be reviewed and considered

Applications submitted by eligible research teams by March 31st, 2025

Applications must be a single PDF containing the following:
 -     Completed Notice of Intent Form
 -     CCV Academic format of applicant and co-applicants
 -     PDF file naming convention: Researcher Last Name_Researcher First Name_TMGP_2025-2026

Email application to Medical Research Development Office (mrdo@dal.ca) and submit via ROMEO. Scientific Review Committee will review and rank applications by late April 2025.

Final Applications

Notice of Intents that are selected by the Scientific Review Committee will be invited to submit a full application by June 30th, 2025

PDF file naming convention: Researcher Last Name_Researcher First Name_TMGPFinal_2025-2026

Completed proposals are to be submitted to the Medical Research Development Office (mrdo@dal.ca) and are required to update the initial ROMEO application. The Scientific Review Committee will review the submitted proposals rank them and recommend the top proposals for funding.
