MRDO / FoM Capital Equipment Grants

Purpose:
To provide financial support for Faculty of Medicine researchers for equipment purchases.
Eligibility and Priorities:
- Faculty members who hold their primary appointment in the Faculty of Medicine are eligible to apply to this program.
- Applications will be evaluated based on scientific merit, research program impact, and perceived need.
- Funding priorities include applications from new investigators recently appointed to the Faculty of Medicine, applications for equipment that serves multiple users, and applications that already have partial funding from other sources.
Submission and Review Process:
- University departments can submit multiple applications. If more than one application from any department is submitted, the head of the Department must provide a letter ranking the applications with the rationale for rank order.
- Applications must be a single PDF containing the following
i. Complete Capital Equipment Grant Application Form
ii. CCV Academic format (applicant) and CCV Biosketch format (all co-applicants)
iii. Budget and summary pages of additional funding awarded or requested - for this specific equipment (if applicable)
iv. Letter from the Department Head outlining the ranking and rationale (if applicable)
v. PDF file naming conventions: Applicant Last Name_Applicant First Name_CEG_2024 - Must be emailed to the Medical Research Development Office (mrdo@dal.ca) and submitted via the ROMEO system for departmental and faculty approval.
- Applications are evaluated by a subcommittee of the Faculty of Medicine Research Advisory Committee based on scientific merit, research impact, and need. Funds are to be used for purchasing research equipment that benefits the research programs within the Faculty of Medicine.
Deadline and Competition Schedule:
- The application deadline will be Friday 11 October 2024
Grant Amount and Discretion:
- Currently, the maximum support is up to $40,000.
- The Faculty of Medicine reserves the right to withhold funding until results from other competitions for matching funds are received. External agency reviews may be considered. If matching funds are not confirmed within 12 months of the award, offers of capital equipment support will be reallocated.
Equipment Ownership and Usage:
- All aspects of ownership, use, transfer and disposal of Equipment are subject to Dalhousie University Research Equipment Policy.
Authorized Expenditures:
- Grants are designated specifically for equipment purchases.
Reporting:
- Successful applicants may be invited to submit an impact report or to discuss the impact of the award on Research in Faculty of Medicine.
