Mission- Showcase Resident Research

AWARDS

The purpose of the Faculty of Medicine Resident Research Awards is to recognize the best resident research projects conducted during a RCPSC/CFPC training program.

Applications will be considered on overall merit and such criteria as: research design, evidence of research ethics compliance, contribution of research to the field of study, originality, relevance of study, quality of product (i.e. paper, poster, presentation, and educational/health administrative innovation).

Criteria and Considerations

There are no restrictions on the types of research eligible for the awards.
However, the research must be completed while applicants were residents.

Award Criteria

Best overall award- 1500.00- Co-Sponsors Dalhousie Medical Alumni Association and Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation
The Best overall award is designed to encourage research during residency training and provide a foundation for research activities after residency training has been completed. The long-term goal is to stimulate research interests (basic science or clinical, Medical Education or qualitative Research) in residency and promote full-time faculty involvement in the research training of residents.

Best work in quality improvement, medical education, leadership, or administration- 1000.00

This award is designed to encourage scholarly activity in Medical Education, Quality Improvement, leadership, or administration during clinical training and provide a foundation for scholarly activities after residency training.

Best work in basic science research- 1000.00
Sponsor: Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation

This award is designed to encourage research during clinical training and provide a foundation for research activities after residency training has been completed. The long-term goal is to stimulate research interests in basic science during residency and promote full-time faculty involvement in the research training of residents.  This award is designated for the highest scoring project for which the objectives and methodology are based in the basic sciences.

Best work in clinical research- 1000.00

This award is designed to encourage research during clinical training and provide a foundation for research activities after residency training has been completed. The long-term goal is to stimulate research interests in clinical training for residents and promote full-time faculty involvement in the research training of residents.  This award is designated for the highest scoring projects for which the objectives and methodology are based in clinical research or direct patient care.

Best work by a PGY1-2 resident- 1000.00
Sponsor: Dalhousie Medical Alumni Association $1000

This award is designed to encourage research during the PGY1_2 clinical training year and provide a foundation for research activities after residency training has been completed. The long-term goal is to stimulate research interests (basic science or clinical) in residents and promote full-time faculty involvement in the research training of residents.

Application Process

  • Each applicant(program) must submit all of the following as a complete package via the nomination form
  • Completed Nomination Form
  • 350-word abstract of the project
  • plain-language summary
  • Deadline for Nomination Submissions May 20, 2024
