Undergraduate Education
Digestive care in the MD Program
Your medical school curriculum will include considerable content on digestive care (both luminal and hepatology) as well as nutrition.
During your pre-clerkship years, the content will primarily focus in the Med 1 core unit, Metabolism (Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Nutrition & Oral Medicine), through lectures, labs, tutorials and exams.
In clerkship, you will have the opportunity to complete two- to four-week selectives or electives within gastroenterology. This experience will not only expose you to the gastroenterology and hepatology inpatient service, they’ll also provide you with exposure to patients in the emergency room setting as well as the opportunity ot work in collaboration with other health care professionals.
Providing specialized support
Our faculty participates in mentorship and shadowing electives, and in career night during pre-clerkship. We also provide mentorship for student research. Additionally, the Division of Digestive Care & Endoscopy impacts the undergraduate curriculum by offering:
- tutoring
- lectures and seminars
- clinical demonstrations and bedside teaching
- evaluation
- course development
