Advancing patient care through clinical research
The Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism has an active, well-resourced clinical research program supported by research infrastructure at the Nova Scotia Health and Dalhousie Medical School.
We have more than 20 studies currently underway in our areas of research interest, which include:
- diabetes
- hyperlipidemia
- obesity
- pituitary disorders
- osteoporosis
We take a team approach to research that involves all division members and residents in our subspecialty residency training program, which has enabled us to participate in more than 50 clinical trials to date. This research has included such landmark studies as ACCORD (Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes), ORIGIN (Outcome Reduction with Initial Glargine Intervention) and TECOS (A Randomized, Placebo-controlled Clinical Trial to Evaluate Cardiovascular Outcomes After Treatment with Sitagliptin in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Inadequate Glycemic Control).
