Education

Undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education

All of our endocrinologists provide undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education as faculty of Dalhousie Medical School. We are enthusiastic teachers eager to share our experience and knowledge while learning from students, residents and physicians.

Undergraduate education

We teach medical students as part of Dalhousie’s core MD curriculum and we offer core and elective rotations to Med 3 and Med 4 students. Medical students are introduced to the body’s endocrine system and encouraged to build their knowledge of hormonal and metabolic disorders as their undergraduate education continues.

Postgraduate education

For residents who have completed three years of accredited internal medicine training, the Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism offers a two-year subspecialty residency training program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons. We also welcome residents who wish to do an elective with us, and those who rotate through our division from other disciplines, such as nuclear medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, and ophthalmology.

Continuing medical education

Division members are very active in continuing medical education. Annually, we present more than 40 sessions on a range of topics to family physicians, specialists, community-based endocrinologists and other health professionals. We also provide public education through community groups and provincial organizations.
