Excellence in clinical gerontology research

Researchers in our division are highly productive on the local, national and international stage. The Geriatric Medicine Research Unit at Dalhousie includes a focus on dementia and frailty in the elderly, and uses a patient-centred research model that is considered best practice.

Division members Drs. Kenneth Rockwood, Paige Moorhouse, Laurie Mallery and Melissa Andrew are renowned for their contributions to the fields of gerontology and geriatric medicine. Innovative work includes the development of tools and services to enhance care of aging patients. Much of this work is focused on frail older adults, as well as people with dementia.

Learners at all levels are encouraged to take part in research, including an optional research focus during the second year of the subspecialty residency training program. Our faculty are also involved in postgraduate MSc/PhD training, as well as post-specialty clinical and research fellowships, and postdoctoral fellowships.
