Biography

I am a medical oncologist at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Professor in the Department of Medicine at Dalhousie University, the Canadian Cancer Society Research Chair at the University of New Brunswick and a Senior Scientist of the Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute. My clinical work focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of multiple myeloma and other plasma cell disorders, lymphoma, thoracic and central nervous system malignancies.

Research interests

My research program includes pre-clinical and clinical studies of novel biomarkers and treatments for these cancers. My laboratory team is based at Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick on the UNB Saint John Campus and includes undergraduates, medical students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and staff technicians and scientists. Next door to the university campus, in our oncology clinic at the Saint John Regional Hospital, we have a team of research personnel to enable our participation in clinical trials led by cooperative groups and industry partners.

We also collaborate on research examining innovations in supportive care for cancer patients in areas such as physical activity and mental health. We collaborate with the Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit, the Canadian Cancer Trials Group, the Canadian Myeloma Research Group and the Terry Fox Atlantic Cancer Consortium. We have received research funding support from CIHR, CFI, TFRI, CCS, NBHRF, NBIF, DMRF and other sources.
