Competence By Design (CBD)

Competence by Design is the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada’s version of Competency Based Medical Education (CBME). It is a hybrid design of CBME and the traditional time-based education. All Canadian residency programs will be changing to CBD.

The Dalhousie University Department of Pediatrics residency program implemented CBD in July 2021.  All EPA forms and mapped rotations can be found here: https://sites.google.com/view/epamapping/home?authuser=1%20We

In preparation, PowerPoint presentations and monthly newsletters aimed at preparing faculty and residents for this change have been created. Copies of both can be found below. More information on CBD can be found at https://medicine.dal.ca/departments/core-units/postgraduate/cbme.html and at http://www.royalcollege.ca/rcsite/cbd/competence-by-design-cbd-e
