Dalhousie resident Dr. Hannah Dahn has published a timely study of burnout and resiliency among residents in oncology and hematology training programs in Canada. The first of its kind in Canada, the study confirms other findings that medical residents face an extraordinarily high risk of burnout.

The health status of Indigenous adults has been deteriorating in Canada for over a decade, and socioeconomic inequalities in health among Indigenous Canadians have increased over time. These were some of the findings in a paper recently published by Dalhousie researchers in the Health Policy journal.

Inside a lab at Dalhousie Medical School, 12,000 zebrafish swim in tanks that line the room from floor to ceiling. It looks like a pet store or an aquarium, but these guppy-sized fish have an important connection to children being treated across the street at the IWK Health Centre: they share the same cancers.

The province is adding 15 new specialist residency seats to the Dalhousie University medical school, bringing the total number at the university to 65.

It took special people to build an institution like the North End Community Health Centre and Dr. Margaret Casey was one of them. In 2004 she was received the Order of Canada for her contributions to the community and for these reasons she is September's DalMed Innovator.

Second year medical students with an established track record of community leadership, superior communication skills and demonstrated interest in advancing knowledge are recognized today with the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) Award. Dalhousie University's Todd Dow was chosen as a recipient.
