Building Healthier Communities Together
The Office of Community Engagement in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Medicine connects learners, faculty, and community partners to advance health equity across the Maritimes, grounded in social accountability, equity, diversity, inclusion, and collaboration. We support community-engaged education, research, and clinical initiatives that respond to real-world health needs and strengthen sustainable, reciprocal partnerships—locally and globally.
Our office is developing the Faculy's Valuing Community Guidelines to strengthen equitable partnerships with communities. They will provide guidance on recognizing, supporting, and compensating community members for their lived expertise and contributions to improve patient care, and advance medical education, research, and service. These guidelines align directly with the Faculty's strategic pillar of Serving and Engaging Society, which drives social accountability across all aspects of our work by fostering responsiveness to Maritime communities' health needs. Through this framework, we integrate diverse voices, support equity initiatives, and catalyze system change for better health outcomes.
