PLANS Summer Programs: African Nova Scotian youth exploring careers in health

African Nova Scotian Health Science Summer Camp – Halifax, Sydney, Antigonish

African Nova Scotian students from across Nova Scotia who are interested in a career in health are invited to apply for this camp.   The purpose of the camp is to increase interest in the health professions within the Black community.  The camp will introduce youth to a variety of health professions through fun, hands-on and interactive programming.  The camp will also consist of personal development, cultural and recreational activities such as African drumming, swimming and other outdoor activities.  

  • July 7-12, 2019 – Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS
  • July 16-19, 2019 – St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, NS
  • July 22-25, 2019 – Cape Breton University, Sydney, NS

PLANS Prep Institute (PPI)

PPI is a post-secondary preparation program for Grade 10, 11 & 12 African Nova Scotian learners with a focus on skills development to prepare for success at university or college and ease the transition from high school. The institute will explore courses and programs available and associated careers, skills in leadership, time management, note taking, goal setting, and research and presentation skills.  It will also include personal development, cultural and recreational activities.
